Mock Draft (2008)

1. Miami Dolphins- Glenn Dorsey (DT, LSU): Miami has holes everywhere. But I did this more as a process of elimination more than anything else. McFadden would be too much of a luxury pick here even with Ronnie Brown’s injury. I do not think any QB in this years class warrants the #1 pick, nor do I believe the ‘Phins give up on Beck yet. That leaves Miami with Dorsey, Chris Long or Jake Long. My vote goes to Dorsey.

Other possibilities: Chris Long (DE, UVA), Jake Long (OT, Michigan)

Depth chart at DT: Keith Traylor, Steve Fifita, Paul Soliai

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-LkCvNK2iM

2. St. Louis Rams- Chris Long (DE, UVA): St. Louis has a bunch of needs just like Miami. Long gives them a guy who is ready to contribute right away and provides another versatile 3-4 or 4-3 DE with Adam Carriker from last years draft. He can step right in and replace the aging Leonard Little.

Other possibilities: Jake Long (OT, Michigan), James Laurinaitis (MLB/ILB, OSU)

Depth chart at DE: Leonard Little, James Hall, Trevor Johnson, Victor Adenyanju, Eric Moore

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkQDF6pghQU&feature=related

3.New York Jets- Darren McFadden (RB, Arkansas): The Jets cannot pass up the best player in the draft. Thomas Jones is a solid back but nowhere near the game-changer McFadden is. The two-back system is becoming more and more popular as it proves not only possible but beneficial. McFadden does scare me some because he seems to lack bulk in his lower half ala Reggie Bush.

Depth chart at RB: Thomas Jones, Leon Washington

Other possibilities: Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU), Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida)

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM67H5tsrTc&feature=related

4. Atlanta Falcons- Matt Ryan (QB, BC): The Falcons want to move on from Mike Vick and have not found their QB of the future in Chris Redman, Joey Harrington or Byron Leftwich. Ryan should be the top ranked QB when it is all said and done though I am nervous about the guy. He needs to improve his decision making. LT would be another strong possibility here.

Depth chart at QB: Chris Redman, Byron Leftwich, Joey Harrington

Other possibilities: Jake Long (OT, Michigan), Andre Woodson (QB, UK)

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri1Kl-5YZgY Ryan Two Minute Drill

5. New England Patriots- James Laurinaitis (MLB/ILB, OSU): Thomas is not suited to play inside and Seau and Bruschi are ancient and fragile. I watched the Ravens run through the core of that Patriots defense (the linebackers) and know that is really the only weakness of this team. Trading down and attempting to pick up an offensive lineman and linebacker might end up being the best option.

Depth chart at ILB: Adalius Thomas, Tedy Bruschi, Junior Seau, Eric Alexander

Other possibilities: Jake Long (OT, Michigan), Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1293111xqYErK7N

6.Baltimore Ravens- Malcolm Jenkins (CB, OSU): Most people have the Ravens taking a QB with their first pick. I believe it will either be an outside pass rusher or a corner. McAlister and Rolle are both 30+ and Rolle has already shown signs of a fall in play. McAlister should start dropping off within the next two years and the plethora of young corners the Ravens have brought in have not shown much promise. Jenkins is big at 6’1, 200lbs and has big play making ability with a 4.4 40 yard. Ideally the Ravens would drop down 10 slots and make this pick and they very well could trade down since there are a number of good corners in this years draft. Their decision on whether or not to resign Terrell Suggs also plays a large role in this selection.

Depth Chart at CB: Chris McAlister, Samari Rolle, Corey Ivy, Derrick Martin, Willie Gaston, David Martin, Ronnie Prude

Other Possibilities: Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU), Antoine Cason (CB, Arizona), Andre Woodson (QB, UK)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=1A4Hu-Z8LOs

7. Kansas City Chiefs- Jake Long (OT, Michigan): This would be a dream situation for the Chiefs. Their offensive line is an old and beat up version of its former self. Long provides the Chiefs with the best lineman in the draft and perhaps the second best player in college football. Long should be able to make an immediate impact and start from day one. If Long is gone and the Chiefs are not impressed with other OT prospects Ryan Clady (Boise State), Jeff Otah (Pitt) or Michael Oher (Miss) look for them to go for a corner as Ty Law and Patrick Surtain are not getting any younger.

Depth Chart at OT: Damion McIntosh, Will Svitek, Herb Taylor, Kyle Turley, Adrian Jones

Other Possibilities: Antoine Cason (CB, UAriz), Ryan Clady (OT, Boise State)

Youtube: Sorry you play OLine.

8. Oakland Raiders- Ryan Clady (OT, Boise State): What better way to protect your franchise QB than with a franchise tackle? Clady has shot up boards everywhere and should be the second OT off the board. Raiders need to hope he is not another Robert Gallery.

Depth Chart at OT: Barry Sims, Paul McQuistan, Cornell Green, Mario Henderson

Other Possibilities: Sedrick Ellis (DT, USC), Malcolm Kelly (WR, Oklahoma)

Youtube: Sorry you play OLine.

9. Cincinnati Bengals- Sedrick Ellis (DT, USC): Ellis gives them an immediate upgrade at DT. The Bengals defense needs a lot of improvement as it is 28th in yards allowed and 26th in points allowed.

Depth Chart at DT: John Thornton, Domata Peko, Michael Myers, Bryan Robinson

Other Possibilities: Calais Campbell (DE, Miami), Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU), Kenny Phillips (S, Miami)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ijMhukAKaa0

10. Chicago Bears- Andre Woodson (QB, UK): Rex Grossman, Brian Griese and Kyle Orton. None of these guys are the answer in Chicago. Woodson is my favorite QB in this draft but the Bears might end up getting Donovan McNabb this offseason making this pick too much of a luxury. If they get McNabb look for a OT to be the pick here.

Depth Chart at QB: Kyle Orton, Brian Griese, Rex Grossman

Other Possibilities: Brian Brohm (QB, Louisville), Jeffrey Otah (OT, Pitt), Sam Baker (OT, USC)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1125574rKp7ScJW&source=similarVideos

11. Arizona Cardinals- Kenny Phillips (S, Miami): A lot of drafts have the Cardinals taking a OT. I’m leaning towards a DB. Phillips would be very good value here and is the BPA. There is a question of whether or not Antrell Rolle gets moved to FS. If he gets moved look for a corner to be taken.

Depth Chart at FS: Terrence Holt, Matt Ware, Bhawoh Jue

Other Possibilities: Sam Baker (OT, USC), Jeffrey Otah (OT, Pitt), Antoine Cason (CB, Arizona)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vqZwh4uoOKo

12. Denver Broncos- Jeffrey Otah (OT, Pitt): Broncos could use some fresh bodies on their offensive line and Otah is a guy that I see climbing up draft boards. Sam Baker has been slightly disappointing this season but should also be in the running here. If Phillips drops to Denver look for them to take him.

Depth Chart at OT: Matt Lepsis, Erik Pears, Ryan Harris

Other Possibilities: Sam Baker (OT, USC), Frank Okam (DT, Texas)

Youtube: Sorry you play Oline.

13. Carolina Panthers- Sam Baker (OT, USC): A lot of mocks have the Panthers taking a QB. I think a QB is too much of a luxury at this time. Jake Delhomme is still going to be around and Matt Moore might be the QB of the future they spend time grooming. Baker needs to bulk up but could prove to be the second best tackle in this draft.

Depth Chart at OT: Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Frank Omiyale, Jeremy Bridges

Other Possibilities: Calais Campbell (DE, Miami), Brian Brohm (QB, Louisville)

Youtube: Sorry you play OLine.

14. Detroit Lions- Antoine Cason (CB, Arizona): Surprisingly the Lions will most likely NOT take a WR in the first round this upcoming draft. Their defense has its biggest holes at MLB and in the defensive backfield where Travis Fisher and Fernando Bryant are their shut down corners… right.

Depth Chart at CB: Fernando Bryant, Stanley Wilson, Travis Fisher, Dovonte Edwards, Keith Smith, Ramzee Robinson

Other Possibilities: Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida), Rey Maualuga (ILB, USC)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1313233w6Ea3Wtd&source=similarVideos

15. Philadelphia Eagles- Malcolm Kelly (WR, Okla): I’m personally very high on Kelly. Some of his placement depends on how he tests out on pro-days and such. I believe that in the end he will be the top WR in the draft. The Eagles still need a true #1 receiver as Reggie Brown has never quite broken out as much as expected.

Depth Chart at WR: Reggie Brown, Kevin Curtis, Jason Avant, Hank Baskett

Other Possibilities: Chris Williams (OT, Vandy), Desean Jackson (WR, UCal), Limas Sweed (WR, Texas)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1173670sqEGRDN9?searchId=900899077848558224&rank=14

16. New Orleans Saints- Rey Maualuga (ILB, USC): This is an ambitious pick on my part. Don’t know if Maualuga will be in the draft yet and if he is he could slip to the second round. The pick has more to do with my doubts of Dan Connor as an ILB in the league than my high respect for Maualuga.

Depth Chart at ILB: Mark Simoneau, Brian Simmons, Marvin Mitchell

Other Possibilities: Keith Rivers (OLB, USC), Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=SFbH9d6HauQ&feature=related

17.Buffalo Bills- Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida): Jenkins should step in and start right away for the Bills. He is just another member of what should be a deep class of big and athletic corners. Keith Rivers (OLB, USC), Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU) and Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida) should all be considered here.

Depth Chart at CB: Terrence McGee, Jabari Green, Ashton Youboty, Jerametrius Butler

Other Possibilities: Fred Davis (TE, USC), Keith Rivers, (OLB, USC), Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU), Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=942miu-cRY0

18. Houston Texans- Jonathan Stewart (RB, Oregon): If Stewart comes out I think he is definitely the second back off the board. I really like the power that Stewart runs with but I wonder if his upright running style is going to hurt him some in scouts eyes. Either way the Texans need a RB to make the next step in progressing their offense.

Depth Chart at RB: Ron Dayne, Darius Walker, Adimchinobi Echemandu

Other Possibilities: Aqib Talib (CB, Kansas), Keith Rivers (OLB, USC), Chris Williams (OT, Vandy)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1384117PAxGYYsj?searchId=8055354324500897795&rank=13

19.Washington Redskins- Vernon Gholston (DE/OLB, OSU): Gholston could be long gone by this time but if he drops this far I don’t see the Skins passing on him. He is fast and very strong for his size.

Depth Chart at OLB: Marcus Washington, Khary Campbell, Randall Godfrey, Rocky McIntosh

Other Possibilities: Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida), Limas Sweed (WR, Texas)

Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yot9ClPvZDg

20. Tennessee Titans- Limas Sweed (WR, Texas): Sweed joins his former teammate Vince Young and automatically becomes his best option. Sweed has a physical presence that might be unmatched in this years WR class. He is my personal favorite WR in this draft but a lot of people have him dropping to the mid second round. A lot depends on his 40 yard dash and combine/pro-days.

Depth Chart at WR: Roydell Williams, Justin Gage, Brandon Jones, Eric Moulds, Mike Williams, Chris Davis

Other Possibilities: Kentwan Balmer (DT, UNC), Aqib Talib (CB, Kansas), DeSean Jackson

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v11966849Edr52NA?searchId=8114094295447010441&rank=6

21. Minnesota Vikings- Calais Campbell (DE, Miami): Physically gifted at 6’8 280lbs but has never quite performed to his ability. His potential is probably too much for the Vikings to pass up here though.

Depth Chart at DE: Kenechi Udeze, Ray Edwards, Darrion Scott, Brian Robison, Erasmus James, Jayme Mitchell

Other Possibilities: Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida), Desean Jackson (WR, Cal)

22.Seattle Seahawks- Chris Williams (OT, Vandy): Seahawks could use a playmaking TE or WR but Williams provides a solid tackle that can fill right away. Walter Jones is 33 and is showing his age ala Jonathan Ogden.

Depth Chart at OT: Walter Jones, Sean Locklear, Tom Ashworth, Ray Willis

Other Possibilities: Fred Davis (TE, USC), Desean Jackson (WR, Cal)

Youtube; Sorry you play OLine.

23. Dallas Cowboys (from Cleveland)- Desean Jackson (WR, Cal): I don’t think the Cowboys could resist this playmaker. Patrick Crayton is a solid player but nowhere near the playmaker that Jackson would be alongside T.O.

Depth Chart at WR: Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton, Terry Glenn, Sam Hurd, Miles Austin

Other Possibilities: Aqib Talib (CB, Kansas), Felix Jones (RB, Arkansas), James Hardy (WR, Indiana)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1393989wNwdRXQa?searchId=3732289429741489961&rank=4 \

24.Pittsburgh Steelers- James Hardy (WR, Indiana): A big receiver that the Steelers could use to augment their already potent offense. Heath Miller and Santonio Holmes give them two great weapons with Hines Ward still being a very good threat. OT could be the way to go here but at this position I have Hardy as the BPA when looking at need positions (OL and WR).

Depth Chart at WR: Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Nate Washington, Cedrick Wilson, Willie Reid

Other Possibilities: Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida), Gosder Cherilus (OT, BC)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1126252c5e8eW8a?searchId=5919429717890343970&rank=1

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Brian Brohm (QB, ULouis): I expect one of the top three QB’s to slip. Its mostly likely between Brohm and Woodson. The Bucs might have more immediate needs but I believe they can’t resist Brohm here. Jeff Garcia has had a nice rebirth but is Luke McCown actually the future in Tampa Bay?

Depth Chart at QB: Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski

Other Possibilities: Kentwan Balmer (DT, UNC), Mario Manningham (WR, Michigan)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=IxC2WrG8cuQ

26. New York Giants- Aqib Talib (CB, Kansas): Talib is another one of this years’ big athletic corners at 6’2 200lbs. Talib returned some kicks and punts and also caught four touchdowns this season. He would form a great young corner duo with Aaron Ross for years to come.

Depth Chart at CB: Sam Madison, Kevin Dockery. Aarron Ross, R.W. McQuarters, Corey Webster

Other Possibilities: Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida), Dan Connor (ILB, PSU)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1588576rnMmN5ZD?searchId=900899077848917010&rank=1

27.San Diego Chargers- Frank Okam (DT, Texas): Okam has the build to be able to play the 3-4 NT and Jamal Williams is constantly beat up. He has had surgery on his knees multiple times and at age 31 can’t stay at a high level for much longer.

Depth Chart at NT: Jamal Williams, Brandon McKinney

Other Possibilities: Dan Connor (ILB, PSU), Gosder Cherilus (OT, BC)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1386052AK9fWEXQ?searchId=3732289429741626413&rank=2

28. Jacksonville Jaguars- Keith Rivers (OLB, USC): This would be a great value and need pick for the Jaguars. Rivers is perhaps the best pure OLB in this draft and would probably be considered a steal at this point.

Depth Chart at OLB: Justin Durant, Clint Ingram, Brian Iwuh, Kenny Pettway, Shantee Orr

Other Possibilities: Mario Manningham (WR, Michigan), Derrick Harvey (OLB/DE, Florida)

Youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=AXYE-hXNN-c

29. Green Bay Packers- Felix Jones (RB, Arkansas): Whether or not Jones comes out of school is still a big question mark. If he does he could very well rise above this slot and be a top 20 pick with good workouts. How does 9.1 yards every time he carries the ball sound? So what if he plays second fiddle to Darren McFadden, the guy is blazing fast and makes plays. The Packers drafting a RB here is a luxury pick since they have Ryan Grant and last years second round pick Brandon Jackson but if Jones comes out I do not think they could pass him up here.

Depth Chart at RB: Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, Vernon Morency

Other Possibilities: Gosder Cherilus (OT, BC), Derrick Harvey (DE/OLB, Florida)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1374736Jx7nyJ5e?searchId=4775144447773159617&rank=2

30.San Francisco 49ers (from Indianapolis)- Mario Manningham (WR, Michigan): The Niners have to go back to the drawing board. Alex Smith is still young and he needs at least one more season to prove himself. He can’t be depending on weapoins like Darrell Jackson and Arnaz Battle. Manningham and Vernon Davis would give him too young talented targets to go along with Frank Gore.

Depth Chart at WR: Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, Jason Hill, Ashley Lelie, Bryan Gilmore, Leron McCoy

Other Possibilities: Gosder Cherilus (OT, BC), Adarius Bowman (WR, OkSU)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1198620y7e7mYPj?searchId=776583359995838562&rank=5

31. Dallas Cowboys- Terrell Thomas (CB, USC): Thomas is a mid first round talent who I have dropping due to the depth at corner in the upcoming draft. Anthony Henry struggles at times and isn’t getting any younger at age 31. They have some potential in some of the youth currently on the team but Thomas is the prototypical big corner in today’s game at 6’1 and 200lbs.

Depth Chart at CB: Terrence Newman, Anthony Henry, Nathan Jones, Jacques Reeves, Evan Oglesby

Other Possibilities: Gosder Cherilus (OT, BC), Dejuan Tribble (CB, BC)

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1486935Qm64SdW5?searchId=2919794975619218339&rank=0

32. New England Patriots- Forfeited

Youtube: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v120962277stzjTF?searchId=8886318166073512098&rank=2

Comments:
Dallas just signed P. Crayton to 4 year deal. Doesn't look like they will draft a wr in the first.
